USAMO qualifier this year
Took multi. calc. and Diff. EQ last year, received A's.
Waitlisted.

Personally, I used to think that USAMO was the holy grail of admissions, but it's more important to just show relentless interest and potential.

asiaknight? what did you get for usamo?? will 216.5 qualify me this year!!!

103/3/rejected

217 was the cutoff this year.

sorry LF61, its always depressing to get so close to winning something and then not get it.

Haha, tell me about it. It's not like I invested a lot in making USAMO, but to be three points short of the cutoff... that's agonizing, if only because it makes you think of all the ridiculous sloppy mistakes that you could have avoided (and then made the cutoff!). Oh well... it was more than balanced out today by very good news from UChicago.

I made it for the first time. woot!

well, not that sad, I just feel funny about it....cuz im not an us guy or live in us anyways

AMC12- 101.0
AIME - 2
Looking at a few of these awesome scores you're all getting, I guess my scores aren't worth putting on the application...

They are because they show that you are in the top of the nation in terms of math.

Only 4% of test takers get a 100+ AMC12, and these people are often good to spectular in mathematics.

Now the average for the AIME is a 2, that means your in the top 2% of the test takers of a very challenging test that many good math freaks take.

how many ppl usually take AMC12 across the nation?
what about AIME?

you can find it on the official AMC website, but its a lotttt for the AMC and about 10000 for AIME

I feel seriously out of the loop. I don't even know how the scale runs on the AIME or AMC12 (obviously, I never took either). I was accepted RD to MIT though, and I had SAT I 790, SAT II 800, AP Calc BC 5 and AP Stats 5 and taking multivariable calc this year...

Okay scratch that, I just looked up the scoring system and now I'm suitably impressed by the amazing scores listen on this board. I wish I'd had a chance to take these tests, but congratulations to those of you who did and did very very well on them!

Imagine if you didn't qualify for USAMO because you misbubbled question 1 on the AIME with the correct response... Congrats to all the MITers & great scores!

how GREAT do you have to be at math to go to MIT yo? this is crazy az talk ....

^Hmmm. You don't really have to be better than math than most USAMO qualifiers to get into MIT. I myself, am probably in the top 100 high school mathematicians in the nation (by USAMO and ARML scores and so on), but I got waitlisted nonetheless. It's just not that important compared to other things.

were can i take the test?

AMCs are usually mid February and you have to get your school to sign up for it. Try contacting your math supervisor to see if you can do it.

These scores are fantastic. I thought I did relatively well, but a lot of you guys are amazing. Good luck this year. Decided not to apply in the end.

AMC 12 = 105
AIME = 6

oh my god. where did you dig this up from?
AMC 12- 126.5
AIME - 9
USAMO - 6 (haha, i was like 40th percentile that year)

ARML - 5
USAMTS - Silver
what else is there?

those were all achieved in 10th grade. my math has gone down ever since then. im warming up for MIT again...
