MIT Cheerleaders

I was surprised to see that MIT has cheerleaders. What cheerleader in her right mind would want to go to MIT? The stereotype has been so engrained in my head (well, the cheerleaders at our school - OMG - I can't believe they were even accepted to college) that I can't imagine a cheerleader putting down her poms and deciding to go to MIT.

Well, here they are:
http://web.mit.edu/cheer/2003-2004SpecificWebPages/2003-2004SinglesInUniform.htm

To the best of my recollection: the cheerleaders at our school are a bit more attractive than the majority of these girls.

what do you expect? They are most definetely there to learn, not to cheer....they might have been O.K. in high school and just decided to do it to fill an athletic requirement.....then again, maybe they heard of the excellent cheerleading squad...HA

Actually, some of the cheerleaders at my school are quite intelligent and motivated. They take AP classes just like everyone else. Your school seems really stereotypical in that sense-- my school has a lot of diversely talented people, like our football team's captain is one of the smartest students on campus, and some artists are brilliant in math, etc. And yes, smart cheerleaders. :p

"What cheerleader in her right mind would want to go to MIT?"

Perhaps you have it backwards. Perhaps once they got to MIT, they decided it would be fun to be part of the cheerleading squad. Perhaps in their HS, they never had a chance to do it because the activity was dominated by girls who you might think of as "the stereotype", and now they really get to bust out and try this thing they've always dreamed of. That's part of college life, after all.

Perhaps. Who knows. Just speculating...

I was captain of my high school's football team, and also captain of our math team. There are PLENTY more like me.

Stereotypes just don't work people :)

I think mootmom's got it right. When i read the profile of the captain of the cheerleading squad, she said she was a huge band dork in HS but then she went to MIT and became captain of the cheerleading squad. Seems like they just figure they'd try it once they get there. Especially since MIT's squad shatters every cheerleading stereotype you can think of.

"I was captain of my high school's football team, and also captain of our math team. There are PLENTY more like me."

I presently am in the same situation...

yuckkkkkkkk

My fears have been confirmed...

lol please, talk to some of the EA admits from this year.

hahahaha

;)

I think most of those girls in the picture are really pretty!

Maybe I'm too nice.

Well there's that girl with the REALLY shiny face - maybe it's the flash... something is up with that.

But I agree, they're not unattractive.

i'm a varsity cheerleader and vp of math team

LOL armenia

I actually know a cheerleader who is a freshman at MIT. She was a cheerleader in high school but didn't take that very seriously; she wanted to study engineering. She just cheerleads on the side, and while she is very pretty, she doesn't fit the typical cheerleader image.

wow! ugliest cheerleaders I've ever seen. But i gotta give MIT some props for even having a cheerleading squad.

:(

Some of the cheerleaders are looking pretty good. My friend dates one who was the homecoming queen . . . of Texas.

Could we see some photos of MIT football players so we could pass judgment on their appearance too????
