Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description):
->Computer Club, 10-12, Co-Founder and President, everything tech related in the school. We are the technology club for the school, hosting events such as hour of code and build a computer day. I also worked with the tech department for the school district to get involved in distributing and maintaining the computers that were distributed to students last year. As part of this student help desk, we have presented to faculty and staff, as well as city officials.
->Robotics Team, 10-12, Captain and Lead Programmer, we compete in botball, pretty basic stuff.
->Blue and Gold (school newspaper), 11-12, Editor and Chief of Online, I am responsible for maintaining all of the technology for the newspaper, and for editing and publishing work online.
Job/Work Experience:
->Northeastern University Young Scholars Program - a research program for high school students hosted at northeastern. I was one of 24 chosen to participate, and worked in a CCIS lab on a machine learning project revolving around blackjack and card counting.
->I have yet to begin, but I secured a paid internship at a local company where I will be working as a software developer during the 4th quarter of the school year, instead of attending classes.
Volunteer/Community Service: Geometry Summer Enrichment Tutor (100 hrs), Chromebook Helpdesk (200 hrs)
Summer Experience: Young Scholars Program
Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Essays:
What You Do For Pleasure: Boda Borg in my hometown, 8, totally unique to my city, since it is the only place outside of Sweden that has a Boda Borg.
Department at MIT: VI, 10, wrote about my experience putting up whiteboards (technically without permission ;~) ) for my CS class, and that ways that I thought Course VI could parallel that.
World You Come From: Unorthodox Parenting Approach, 9, How my parents have supported what I wanted to do and let me become the person who I want to be rather than the person that they wanted me to be.
Significant Challenge: Being Overweight as a kid, 8, how being overweight and the odd one out affected my schooling at first, and how I have been slowly coming out of my shell during my Junior and mainly Senior year.
Who I’ve Helped: Quirky but super intelligent friend, 10, No one really liked him, but his brilliance really impacted how I work myself, and my attempts to be there as a companion for him impacted him as well.
Other (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Teacher Recommendation #1: CS, 100, we are extremely close, and I have helped him to vastly improve the department. From putting up whiteboards, to running programs after school, to working with him to co-develop the new Advanced Data Structures and Algorithms Course, I have been there since day 1. He also helped push me to reach my full potential in CS. Listed me as the best he has had in 20 years by far. Couldn’t say enough.
Teacher Recommendation #2: Physics, 9, Robotics coach and bro. Knows me really well, and taught me. I was the best physics student that year, and probably in the school right now. I also self studied physics and he helped me when I had questions. He talked about my work ethic, motivation, but also my more fun side, since he has seen that after school through robotics and etc…
Teacher Rebommendation #3: English/Newspaper, 9, Spoke about how much of a mentor I am to the other people in the class, and how great of a writer and speaker I am. Supporting some of what the other 2 said.
Counselor Rec: 7, not really anything new. She kinda rehashed my resume and grades. She had a little insight about the student helpdesk, and what other faculty believe, but that’s about it. Also, she was new at the end of my Junior year.
Additional Info/Rec: Professor from Young Scholar Program, CCIS@Northeastern. I didn’t see it, but I can only assume that he was quite enthused about me, as he seemed that way during and after the program.
Principal (after I was deferred). I didn’t see it, but he really likes me and supports me, so I assume that he wrote a lot of nice things and tried to make my case to the admissions officers.
Interview: Awesome, and it lasted for about 2 hours. I feel like I really connected with my interviewer, and she was able to explain a lot of things about MIT that I hadn’t necessarily known about before. I was also able to talk about some things that weren’t on my application, and show my interest in the school and the environment there.

Reflection
Strengths: Huge huge HUGE investment in CS, demonstrated through my extracurricular, work with my CS teacher, and out of school work experiences.
Weaknesses: No hooks, and no major awards.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Deferred because I wasn’t unique enough for that pool, and later accepted because IDK. I guess the pool was good for me this year. The extra recommendation from my principal also helped I would bet. That, and saying that MIT is my first choice, and that I would attend unconditionally if accepted in my FUN form.
What would you have done differently?: Nothing, since I was accepted
Where else did you apply?
UMass Amherst, Accepted to Honors Early
Northeastern, Accepted to Honors Early,
Caltech, Rejected,
CMU SCS, waiting
Stanford, waiting
UCB, waiting
I am going to attend MIT so those don’t really matter at this point
Other Factors: None
General Comments & Advice:
Just be true to yourself. Look at me; I am not some national prodigy, and I haven’t done anything that is out of reach for the average high school student. I have just dedicated myself to my interests since day one, and tried to do my best in everything that I do. Even if I wasn’t accepted, that would have put me in the best position possible to succeed in the future.
I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT I GOT IN!!! MIT 2020 :~)
