MIT Class of 2021 Applicants

@ManaManaWegi Didn’t I mess up on failing to submit a slideroom profile and there really wasnt any other way to prove that I liked to draw…because it’s not something that my teachers would write about me doing. Sorry if I come across really whiny or annoying! I really appreciated the insight you provided me!

@Anonymous261 an essay can prove that you like drawing I think. However, a portfolio is probably necessary (awards maybe) to prove that you are very good.

Do you think MIT has ever accept a student, then take it back, as if maybe it was a mistake?

I mean, last year (?) they accidentally sent an email with an implication that recipients were acceptrd, but it wasn’t official and they rectified that immediately. If your portal says you’re in and you have your tube, don’t worry that it was a mistake. Just keep the grades up and don’t get rescinded. (They can do that, for sure, but they’d want a reason.) If you’re in, they saw something they wanted

Does my choice of major affect admission chance?

@curiousbobby no

Did any applicant from India get an interview?

@intellectboy yeah I had mine in October

@samc24 I was talking about regular action.
Anyways, did you get in?

Today, my “Interview Waived” box disappeared from my dashboard (although it is still checked on the checklist).
Does it mean anything?

@intellectboy haha actually I’m applying regular action, but I was confused back then, so I did it early anyway.

I never submitted one and got in, a slide room profile that is, not sure how necessary it is

@sprintahead in case no one answered you yet, MIT is great about accepting test scores after the 1/1 deadline. In fact, they insist on their Admissions blogs that you DON’T send them Rush, so you should be fine. Good luck!

@juliejes in case @MITChris doesn’t respond (he may me a little busy

Sorry, not sure why the rest of my post didn’t show up. Just focus on completing your FUN form and add anything you’ve been up to. The blogs specifically mention that they don’t want any more letters from deferred students. Congrats on your deferral. Good luck!

Hey guys, how important is the interview for MIT. Like I spent around 90 minutes talking to my interviewer and he was very nice. But, I felt like he was a bit disappointed in me because of some of the classes I took. For example, I’m taking Physics 2 instead of Physics C and Calc AB instead of Calc BC. I also think it was very apparent that I was very nervous. But overall it was a nice experience ish.

@Anonymous261 I’m just an applicant, So someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but the interviewer isn’t going to (or, isn’t supposed to) assess your academics, they’re supposed to get a feel for you as a person. I’m sure being nervous is normal, as long as the conversation went well, don’t stress it. My interviewer and I spent most of the time discussing derivation of formulas, and problem solving, and even teaching methods, I think it may have impressed him that I skipped calc BC, because I mentioned that I did some work over the summer to do it, but it’s just going to help shape their overall picture of you. As long as he seemed to enjoy talking with you, it’s okay. Even if he writes “didn’t take calc BC!!! horrible applicant!!!” they won’t really care, because they already know you didn’t take calc BC. they’d probably just discount that bit of info.

I was looking up stuff about the interviews a week ago, and found this comment made by an EC. Can someone (possibly @MITChris ) confirm or deny this as a fact?

It was in response someone saying they talked about extenuating circumstances in an essay, and asking if the interview was the place you should do that.

"You are calling attention to what you feel might be an extenuating circumstance. It is up to that EC to decide if it is truly extenuating or simply a creative excuse.
The place is the interview, NOT the essay. "

I kind of hope it’s not true, because the topic I would have needed to bring up didn’t come naturally, and even though my interviewer was a super nice guy, the existence of ADHD is semi-frequently debated, and many people do think it’s an excuse. It feels sort of unfair to let ECs make that deliberation.

How receptive are the MIT admissions people to emailed updates after the FUN form has been submitted? I’m asking because a few weeks from now, I may want to expand on something I mentioned in the FUN form

@CuriousBobby I would just wait and do it closer to the February 15th deadline then. I think that has to be the near absolute cutoff for updates since decisions will be released about a month after the FUN is due.
