MIT Class of 2021 Applicants

Would it hurt my chances if i have a 88 in linear algebra and differential equation? I still have a 95 in calc ab If that makes it better?

@anonymous261 "A"s are always better, but some "B"s don’t matter as much as you think.

On the MIT (February Update) FUN form - to report grades - our school has a quarter system – would it make sense to submit both quarters grades or average the 2 quarters to get a semester grade - anyone else have a similar situation?

@CA1543 According to the blog post about the FUN form on the MIT admission blogs, I think you’re supposed to submit both quarter grades, particularly if that’s how your grades are represented on your transcript. The blog post noted an example of what to do if you have quarter grades:
Biology A, A-
AP Economics 96,92
Hope this helps!

Thanks-- I had not seen that blog post!! Appreciate it - will put both quarter grades down.

@mrduque Don’t you mean ADMITion decisions?

I can’t WAITlist

Does anyone know how our guidance counselors submit our midyear grades? I can’t find any sort of form on myMIT that my counselor would submit.

@itssonotjacky – I was wondering that too – my son’s guidance counselor sent my son’s quarter grades by email after calling to ask about how to do that if desired and MIT said it could be emailed. I do not know of another official “form” for a guidance counselor to use.

@CA1543 @itssonotjacky I think it’s just a self reported thing. You need to submit the February updates and notes form.

They only want the official transcript if you’re admitted.

@ManaManaWegi Okay, thank you so much!

What kind of student is academically qualified to MIT? In the previous years I had a few high 80s in 3 ap classes that I brought up to 90+. But this year I have a 87 in a post ap math class, 89 in ap physics 2, and 89 in ap economics (which is 2 ap courses in one class). Since we’re seniors there isn’t much to improve on grade wise. I’m not trying to make excuses for my grades, I’m just really worried because MIT is a stem school and I might not be qualified academically as compared to others.

Answer the question for yourself!

Guys what should I write for my February updates?

Less than 37 days!

How are you supposed to update MIT about “new things” in your life on the FUN form, if nothing exciting happened…?

@Anonymous261 — You do not have to – they said tell a joke or share a quote if you’d like. From MIT -----
“Don’t have any updates? No problem! Many students don’t. Know any good jokes or have a favorite inspirational quotation instead?” Don’t sweat it.

Exciting is a fairly relative term. Anything as simple as even learning an interesting topic in a certain STEM class could classify as exciting for you. It’s really just a form to make sure your grades are still on point, and that you have been enjoying/using your time!

Did anyone receive an email about financial aid recently? I made a thread about this if you want more details
