GUYS P=NP DOUBLE CONFIRMED
Hey, I’m from miami but I’m not hispanic. Does that count?
Anyway towards the end of last year my engineering teacher told me to make a portfolio of my projects in the form of a powerpoint type thing, something you could print out and give to an interviewer. So each page looks like a powerpoint: simple text with images. However, the slideroom portfolio supplement is in a different format: 25 media items that stand apart.
My question: Are they looked at in order? Could I just put each page of my ppt as an image for my supplement? Probably not right? How do I explain the details about my project as a whole? (Maybe a picture of the team?) Should I give my powerpoint portfolio to the interviewer? Would that be appropriate/useful/beneficial?
Thanks
Do you guys think I should put EdX/Coursera courses in the additional courses section or Marching Band (I don’t have enough spaces for both, since I’ve taken Marching Band for three semesters)? Also, although I took my Spanish 3 course at my high school, we got credit from the local community college as well (same goes for my MVC course this year), so should I list those courses as CP or college courses?
@fmasroor I think you can put each slide as an image, but I’m not submitting a maker portfolio so I’m not quite sure how that submission process works.
@scarletwitchx Unless you received credit and will appear on your transcript, I wouldn’t put EdX or Coursera on Additional Courses, but you could mention them in your essays or interview if they’re that important. As for Marching Band, it depends on how significant those courses shape who you are. I have taken Psychology, Sociology, Law Studies, Medical Skills, and a bunch of other courses that I don’t have room to fit, but since MIT will see my transcript anyway, I don’t have to put those courses on my transcript since they aren’t as important as other courses I have taken, such as AP Art History, Intro to Philosophy (Duel Enrollment), or Digital Media Honors (where I earned my Adobe Photoshop certification). For Spanish 3, I would give mostly the same advise, but you might not want to put both since they are, in fact, the same class. Whatever the community college gave you will look more impressive than some High School Honors class gave you.
Speaking of my Adobe Photoshop Certification, should I include that in my non-academic awards? School or national level? To be more specific, my Digital Media selected a few students to receive waivers (provided by Florida BoE) for the Adobe Photoshop Certification Exam. I passed with an impressive score on my second try and got certified, being one of the only few in my school to become certified that year.
Is there any Kurd or Iranian here
I like to compare our application maybe
Is there anything I can still do to boost my chances of getting into mit? Are there any competitions or such I can do senior year?
How are you with computers?
USACO should have a round in December
or hacking? (but you’ll need 2 friends at your school) https://csaw.engineering.nyu.edu/hsf
