MIT Class of 2023 Discussion/Decisions

Sorry @skieurope my bad - I meant to type EA… I understand the pull is very, very limited. The coach for my child’s sport seemingly indicated that EA was almost a must.

Again, varies by sport. Applying EA, IMO, has as much, if not more, benefit for the coaches compared to the student’s benefit. But if the coach (again sport-specific) really wants the kid, s/he’ll wait for RD.

@Skrunch the admits are active in other fora. what I hear – more and more – is they don’t like celebrating in the end zone, as it were, when so many others are publicly mourning their Ls

Rejected as well, congratulations to all those talented people who were accepted! You did it!

didnt mean to post twice! Good luck to all.

“mourning their Ls” is an odd phrase. Most students are looking for good homes. This is not a fair competition: it is a search for a good fit.
So long as students are fairly assigned to universities, society as a whole wins.

Son rejected:( He’s rolling with it tho…think WE might have been more disappointed…lol

Son rejected. 1600 SAT, 800 Math2,Chem, Phys, 4.0/4.85 GPA, state-level SEF and other awards, years of research, other good ECs, great recs from teachers and research mentor. Going to Caltech in the fall. Bye-bye, snow!

rejected ouch

Legacy is NOT a factor at MIT.

@lmaowutt did you get in?

don’t assume that if you got in and have low scores that you shouldn’t go…! they think you will fit, so give it serious consideration!! congratulations!!

They dont take legacy into account. What i like about MIT is its transparency and strive for fairness. THey value the fit to their vision more than any admission factor, hence we can see the varied range of results for varied profiles based on the admissions factors.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO GOT IN!

THOSE WHO GOT WAITLISTED, HANG IN THERE, AND HOPE FOR THE BEST (also update them with the latest good things you’re doing, cuz that always helps to nudge them)

THOSE WHO DIDNT GET IN, REJECTION DOESNT DEFINE YOUR OTHER RESULTS. IF YOU TRUST YOURSELF, YOU WILL MOST PROBABLY GET IN WHERE YOU WANT TO GO.

Hope this helps anyone who’s happy, sad, indifferent or any other crazy emotion; or any mixture of emotions.

@MAandMEmom Coach indicated EA was a must and most recruits get in EA, when deferred called and made sure MIT was our #1 and stressed how that was unusual so keep hanging on…whole lotta not truthful IMO.

Might be Monday next week before you get that info. Just enjoy today if you get in!

@opyf64 You misunderstand me. When I say “against all odds” I mean that all of our excellent children are against the odds of getting into a school that has more qualified applicants than available spots. My girl had the high school credentials of your son/daughter. An Asian-American from Connecticut. No student from her high school had ever been accepted to MIT. So, ya, the odds are incalculable. And now she plays on a varsity team at MIT, has excellent grades, sings in the concert choir, and is overwhelmed by her opportunities. We continue to celebrate PI Day with “■■■?” happiness. It worked out for us. It will work out for you. Our wonderful kids will bloom where they are planted if we support them with our love and enthusiasm.

@MITChris would it be possible to know if any Greek students were admitted? (I’m a current MIT student asking this out of curiosity).

My son got rejected as well.
Great stat .IB diploma . Varisity tennis and all other activities.
As a mom I am more disappointed :slightly_frowning_face: But I believe god has plans for everyone.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO GOT IN!.

Rejected. I accidentally posted my stats on the EA results thread. I thought it was just a general results thread.
