Hey guys, I still haven’t been contacted by my interviewer. Anyone else in this position?
Sounds like you won’t be getting an interview if you are applying EA. Deadline for the interview reports to be submitted was Saturday.
MIT will not take it against you if you were never offered an interview. There are only so many alumni volunteers to do the interviews. Some areas don’t have enough and that’s not your fault.
Do check your spam folder to make sure your interview request didn’t get caught there.
@HPuck35 Thanks for the advice! I have been checking my spam folder to make sure I don’t miss the email, but nothing. Question: will applicants whose interviews are waived be notified of this, or just receive no email at all?
You will probably receive no email at all. The shortage of ECs will be the reason for no interview and will also mean there is no one to notify you.
The deadline to submit interview reports was November 21 for EA applicants. If you are deferred to RD, which a very high number of EA applicants are, then there is another opportunity for an interview. The same EC shortage may prevent you from getting an interview then. But still keep checking your emails.
For what it’s worth, my son (EA applicant) was contacted by an EC on 11/23 and he had his interview the day after Thanksgiving.
My son was contacted the day after thanksgiving (fri) and was interviewed he next day (sat). The interviewer apologized for short notice but said the interview had to be done by this past Saturday.
I can share some things that aren’t as well known.
-
We (Educational Counselors) were requested in early November to take from the Questbridge overflow for a few days as there were A LOT of students from that.
-
We finally got assigned in the second week of November. (At least for my area, the regional chair did the assignment.)
-
Apparently there are ~300 less EC’s this year compared to last year, so needless to say, we’re … busy.
-
We all signed up for various amounts and we have all reached our EA limits and we’re trying to take more. (I’ve already done 6. I plan to take 1-3 more. Then I’ll take probably 5 in the RA cycle.)
-
I see LOTS of unassigned students on the EC site.
-
The EC website as of Monday was still requesting that we submit interview reports so it’s still not too late.
Did I need to fill in a checkbox to request MIT interview on application just heard this. True? If so, might have missed this box. Thanks.
I didn’t fill any checkbox but got an MIT interview
Helpful. I did not see one and friend said he did. I called admissions after I posted here, they said NO checkbox. My friend has faculty connection so take his points more seriously. Wonder if EA different than RD? Anyhow, returning to my mantra …my application is in the black box now. Fingers crossed. Good luck to you!
All students are put into the que for an interview. The deciding factor is availability of the people doing the interviews.
