I've heard from a lot of people that recruited athletes generally get in EA for MIT. Is this a myth or is there some truth in it?

Some do, but a lot don’t. I was recruited but got deferred EA, as did a lot of my team mates. The number of people who get in EA is pretty small overall, and it doesn’t mean anything if you get deferred, or even just reply RA.

Do you mean:
a) Those recruited athletes who are admitted are more often admitted EA than RD;
b) Applicants who are recruited for athletics are admitted at high rates, but moreso during EA than RD;
c) Something else

I’m not sure whether a) is true, although I don’t think it’s a causal relationship – more EA applicants than RD applicants are admitted generally, because EA applicants are more likely to be the kinds of people who are likely to be admitted. As for b), I don’t know the differential on EA vs. RD in terms of recruited athletes, but overall last year, only about a third of art/music/athletic recruits were admitted.
