EA

Hello,

Can anyone offer any insight into the decision-making that seems to go into admitting applicants during EA vs. deferring them for consideration during RD? In particular, would really value any parents’ or admitted students’ thoughts or observations as to EA. We are currently waiting to hear from the university and trying to level-set our expectations. Thank you in advance.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking, but my very non-scientific answer, from what I have observed, a lot of EA applicants are deferred. Unfortunately, all but one of the handful of deferred ED applicants I know personally were rejected in the RD round.

I think the best way to set your expectations is to prepare ED2 and RD applications and have them ready to go. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. Good luck, though.

Thank you; we applied to two other schools during EA (all non-binding) and have submitted an additional 10 applications for RD. I don’t think any of our “other” ten schools offered ED2. Our bases are absolutely covered. Several hundred applicants to MIT do get admitted during EA and I was just trying to get a feel for what might separate them from the applicants who are deferred. I appreciate your taking a minute to reply, @Groundwork2022.

I think “recruited” applicants generally get in EA. The rest get deferred or rejected. By “recruited” I mean math olympians, athletes, URM.
