I remember reading something to the effect that applicants who write a non-science-related response to the “Tell us about something you do for pleasure” prompt will be significantly bumped down in level of consideration. Is this true?

Think about this: music, sports, arts,… are not sciences but many MIT students enjoy them.
It’s not a trick question.
