Well, I'm an international student applying to MIT and one of the essays is "Describe the world you come from". The best way to tackle this question was through what might be a controversial topic(Don't worry it's something positive) , though I think anything different from that would be dishonest, I won't post the topic here since some moderator will close the thread just like what happened last time(...sigh). So please post here whether you want to help and I'll explain it to you in a pm. Thanks

I do not believe that any MIT moderator will close this thread, as long as everyone is respectful. Your original thread is still visible so I read the topic. I think that writing your essay about this topic is a great idea because it will show MIT how you will add to the diversity of the class. If admissions feels that you can handle the work, that you have a passion to learn or create, and that your personality makes you someone that they think will be an excellent contribution to the class, this essay will only make your application stronger.

Good Luck!

Hi Reda1234,

Looking at your original post on the other thread, I’m confused as to why it was closed down. I agree with rothstem that I think it would be strange for that to get shut down here.

If you want to email me, you can email me @mit.edu (same username as CC). Note, (1) I’m not doing this in any official capacity :P, and (2) I might not actually have time to read it, but I’ll do so if I have time.

I… have no idea why a moderator would’ve closed the last topic. I honestly want an explanation :/

MIT admissions are always in favor of diversity, so just being completely honest in your essay, no censoring yourself or anything, will probably be best.

I posted it in the college admissions section, so it was probably a CC moderator. Thanks everyone!!
