Thank god. I thought I was the only weird guy on CC. =)

Will MIT consider reading any additional essay sent via email?

I forgot to include that piece of writing on the Additional Information section, and now I can do nothing as I have already submitted Part 2 of my application. So, how should I send them that additional essay. It's really important for me to send that essay.

^^^send it via USPS Priority mail.

It would not be a good idea to send the essay via email, since they get bundles and bundles of email. Moreover, they will have to print out your essay from that email.

You certainly can send an essay via email, but I agree with Synchrotron that postal mail would be better -- there's already a dedicated staff for opening and processing postal mail at the admissions office, but email has to be printed and matched to your file by the admissions officers themselves. Mailing the essay makes less work for the admissions office.

Just make sure to include your full name and birthdate with the essay so it can be matched to your file.

And blue_box, it's a common confusion. :) I thought I was being clever by making my username my email address, but apparently it's a little puzzling.

Haha. Well it's confusing in the beginning, but when you realize what it really is there's an amazing head-banging moment where you wonder why you didn't think of it before. Sigh. MIT. Lucky.

Every time I try to submit payment for part 1, this message keeps popping up:

"There was an issue submitting your payment. Your application Part 1 has not been submitted. Click Return to Payment screen to re-enter your credit card information. If you continue to have problems, please contact the Admissions office to report the issue."

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I double checked and made sure part 1 was validated, but still I have no idea what is wrong. I even tried entering my full name, my name without my middle name, and my name with just the middle initial. Am I doing something wrong?

^when you say "validated" does that mean sent? you need to actually SUBMIT part 1 first..

Step 1 is Validation, Step 2 is Preview/Print, and Step 3 is Enter Payment and Submit Application. It also says: "Part 1 of your application will not be submitted until you have completed the payment section. "

Will MIT read the research papers I sent in my mail?

I sent in two. One was published in an international journal.

Adcoms will not. At most, they invite applicants to submit abstracts of research they've done, as that's all they can commit to reading. Maybe they'll forward your material to a faculty member who can comment on the strength of what you've written, but I'm not sure they'd actually do that.

I checked in EECS for Part 1 but wrote about Aero|Astro in Part 2. I have no idea why the EECS thing happened, spur of the moment actually ... I have no intentions of majoring in EECS so I just couldn't bring myself up to write anything about it ... so would the discrepancy matter much? Should I mail the admissions office telling them about what just happened?

hey adrivit, something similar was for kunaal too I think.. and even with some other people who commented on matt's recent blog entry. Matt said it was okay really.

Actually Matt said Kunaal should email admissions@mit.com/email with the change after January 5 and they would change it.

BTW, Adrivit, good luck with your apps. =)

OK, that was another guy who said that then :) Hey blue_box, are you someone I know? :D

Your name is? I don't know anyone named spideyunlimited...

I'm Gaurav...just wondered if you know Kunaal, you might know me too...maybe

Hey thanks, blue_box!

Ah no. I know Kunaal because I was applying to this SIA thing and he gave me tips. If we're both talking about the same Kunaal. I dunno... The Kunaal you're talking about lives in Singapore?

Oh yea, I've got a question. When MIT says that in international applications they expect to see leadership or research stuff, do they really mean it? Will apps that don't have those be rejected outright?
