MIT INSPIRE 2018

@cchiong19 it seems that they have moved the deadline to the 19th so those ‘grayed out’ forms will probably be available the night before the submission date or so.

Forms are available now!

They said on the Intent to Participate form that it’s okay to change your research paper title when submitting your report right?? The only thing you can’t change is the category ??

@SlayMeLove Yep!

does anyone know how hard it is to be a finalist? Like what Pct become finalists?

@Lefty10 it seems like @websensation has experience with the competition, if I may be so bold as to @ their account and call upon them for some guidance :stuck_out_tongue:

@Lefty10 Based on past years it doesn’t seem extremely hard to become a finalist. There are over 100 finalists (https://getinspired.mit.edu/sites/default/files/images/INSPIRE2016_Finalists.pdf), and probably a few hundred applicants total. If you look at the available papers of 2015 winners, some papers are incredible, others are simply decent.

(Disclaimer: These are just my educated guesses. It’s my first year actually competing, but I’ve been following this comp for a while and went to the public viewing and saw finalist projects in person last year.)

Welp i didnt break my paper into sections. It reads more like a law review

@Lefty10 what category are you in?

@SlayMeLove STS, U?

a bit of a dumb question, but when it says it assumes a time of 11:59:59 pm est, does it mean as in tonight, or tomorrow night? with my experience with different colleges in boston, they’re all super random of which one they do :slight_smile:

TMw @mar0311

@mar0311 today, but keep in mind your timezone. IDK if it effects the submissions or not, but better safe than sorry :slight_smile:

@Lefty10 History ~O)

@Lefty10 thank you!! and @SlayMeLove thank you hahahah im actually a boston native so all good for the time zone! :slight_smile: for anyone who isnt, bare in mind its currently 6:13 pm here!!

I’ve never felt so distraught in my life. I tried submitting my forms for an hour and I kept getting “An unrecoverable error occurred”. It just feels like so much wasted time down the drain for a circumstance I would have never imagined. I emailed them to at least get some peace of mind to understand what happened but I’m completely aware of that I would be unable to submit my report. Good luck to you all though, I bet they’re stellar <3.

What should I do if I submitted my report without the full works consulted?

I only sent half of it (which was an older version). The updated version with the full works consulted didn’t get on for some reason. I think I clicked the older form to submit.

I was actually having a lot of problems myself with uploading my report on the 18th/early morning 19th. Thankfully, I was one of the luckier ones in that I was able to submit my report before the deadline (I submitted it the day before), but it took nearly two hours just to figure out how to upload it correctly :expressionless:

Any idea when the finalists will be announced / notified?

@firetruck325 the confirmation email about receival of the abstract said that it should be late february, and i think they just post a list of all finalists and alternates on the website at that time :slight_smile:
