They are already giving us less than 4 weeks to get plane tickets. It’s actually quite inconsiderate that at a minimum they don’t provide a status on their website -_-
Bad job they are doing!
I hope the competition is still on for this year. It’s inconsiderate that they don’t give us a status.
I hope that if/when they get back to us, they postpone the date. Of course, it would cause conflicts with some finalists, but in general, I think it would be a wise decision to not force everyone to cram their travel plans.
@Radiant I don’t think they can postpone because they have reserved rooms, scheduled judges and speakers. It’s a shame they are so late. I hope the competition is still taking place. I’m surprised there was no update on their website today. :-w
really hope we hear from them soon so we can figure out school arrangements : / they’re really crunching time
@likelaughter That’s a good point. It doesn’t seem like they have judges and speakers for 2018 on the website yet, but I can see how the rooms would be an issue. I also hope it’s still taking place - it’s really the only competition of its kind in the nation, and clearly many people were looking forward to it.
It would be good for the student organizers’ sakes, too, if the competition still runs. Nothing kills a job interview quite like when the boss asks you about your leadership positions, and you have to say, “I assumed leadership of a national MIT research competition and was responsible for crashing it into the ground.”
Unbelievable! I just read that MIT is closed today for inclement weather. http://emergency.mit.net/emergency/
Hopefully the students can work from home and they’re able to announce the finalists, but thus far I’m not seeing a strong work ethic from them. I hope they don’t cancel this year’s competition.
@likelaughter we’re getting 2+ feet of snow today, so MIT will likely be closed tomorrow as well. if finalists don’t go up within a week or so, i’m just going to assume the competition has been cancelled. hopefully it isn’t though, because it would really suck to have wasted all that time.
@concerned0123 I was wondering if you heard back from anyone yet? Thanks
Any word?
Haven’t heard back yet. It’s ironic that the past team members are more responsive and approachable than the present team members.
Hi, all! I’m feeling for my D19 and her classmates who are totally in the dark about when MIT Inspire is going to publish their finalists. Has anyone heard anything? We are definitely past “Late February-Early March”.
I am hopeful that today is the day we find out if we are a finalist. I sure hope so anyway! So good luck to everyone today! :-bd
I’m still hopeful! A few hours are still left [-O<
Why there is no single word from the organizers, after such a significant delay in the process. Is it weird?
I am not totally shocked. Sort of interesting that MIT arguably has had the greatest impact on the development of technology, the computer, and the internet/web in the history of mankind, but also has one of the worst university websites in the country. I believe they sort of operate to the beat of a different drummer: great thinkers and tinkerers, but not great at design and management and organization.
I guess I was overly optimistic. I’m surprised that they have offered no status and that they haven’t responded. I wonder if the MIT faculty are aware that the students running it have refused to respond and/or put a status on their home page. It’s inconsiderate at best.
An update was posted on the MIT INSPIRE website stating that an announcement will be posted by March 19th!
