I guess so…
I was just recalling stuff that she told me

Well, your counselor may have said bs.
Anyways, I don’t think they are more admitted people from Japan (nuked twice, occuped a long time) or Afghanistan/Iraq than from China/India (Not invaded by america)…

Is there a scholarship or any aid type thinng for the ap exams as the cost here is going above 40,000 bucks …
Pls do tell
Thnks

I agree with hennebou. Your counselor’s logic doesn’t make any sense. It may be that the competition among those countries like Vietnam have relatively less competition than among East Asian countries or some West European countries.

@mi6007 I assume you’re either trolling or taking 400 AP exams ?

Which west European countries are you thinking of @HateSMUS?

I’m Nigerian, applied to MIT. Know at least 6 other nigerians also applying. There are currently 7 nigerian undergrads in MIT. On some nights, I lose sleep poring through their website.

So that means that ~2 Nigerians are admitted each year?!? Woah. Good luck to you!

@rajoftheuk, Haha, yeah, exactly. One woman who works at the US Embassy in Nigeria told me about one of the most accomplished Nigerians she had seen in her career. He got a 2360 on his SAT and was rejected. Well obviously, SAT is just one component, and the admissions rate is so tiny it doesn’t matter so much in the long run.

@rajoftheuk, I’m thinking of UK and France. Those two countries had considerable number of applicants for top U.S universities.

I read a thread from last year talking about MIT international admission. An Indian applicant was asking whether the Olympiad medal is vital for MIT admission, especially for Asians. There were 4 international applicants just with decent SAT scores, GPAs, and ECs at the thread. I checked their results and 3 of them were rejected and one was waitlisted. I gave up my expectation for MIT and started to take it as a lottery.

@HateSMUS : France ? You must be kidding. Most people applying to top U.S. Universities (like 90% of the “french” people applying, who are in fact mostly not french but living in France, like I am) study in american schools here (I’m thinking of the ASP, American School of Paris, were I took my SAT/ACT exams… These guys live here for some time, but don’t even speak french, they don’t learn at all what we are learning, they have a completly different curriculum), and there is not so many american schools out here.
The thing is, in the UK, in Germany, in Italy, Spain… In fact, almost everywhere, a good post secondary education means University. But in France, we have a really old and stupid system called "Grandes

And yes, it’s probably a lottery. Even the results could be considered “random” at some extend, as the definition of random is “too many parameters to be able to predict something” (you could try to predict a lottery result too, knowing the exact mass of the balls, the air density, a precise mesure of the gravity where the lottery takes places, etc… But they are so many variables that it’s just random)

No henabou
I am not trolling. But the cost out here per Ap exam is rs. 8000 man.
Which is disturbingly alot of money for 1 exam .
Even the top administrative exams are not more than 200 rs. Pls do tell if there is any sort of scholarship.
And i m taking 5 exams
Thnks

Dude, it’s still doesn’t cost 40,000 bucks !
Sure, you can play with currencies, but, man, 8000INR = 139$ (which is already above the ~120$ they actually take).
And I don’t know if you schearched a bit on google, but there’s no “scholarship” for AP exams, you can just have a 28$ reduction (but hey ! That’s 31,000 south-korean won !)

I’m fairly certain he meant 40,000 INR. I was a bit taken aback as well when I first read his post, and he should have specified currency seeing as he’s on a primarily American board (albeit on an international tread)

So i just have to suck it up and collect 40,000 rs. That’s too much.
Also one more query . Is Calculus ab and bc two different exams .?? Do i have to pay for them seperately ??? Cause that will take the amount to 65 to 70,000 rs.
Pls do tell
Thnks

@mi6007 Yes, they are different. You have to pay for both of them.

Kk… That just made it worse
Well thnks again man
:-)

That’s not really true. They are different exams but primarily for people who are not prepared for BC to take AB. If you take the BC exam you will also receive an AB subscore, which most colleges will accept as the same as the AB exam score. Also realize that MIT doesn’t give any credit for a lot of the AP exams, including Calc AB.
