@momofcskid Its not likely that he was contacted more than 30 days ago, unless he finished part 2 very early.
Most ECs contact students after January 1st, so 15 days ago at the most. Try not to worry, I think he/she will get a Skype interview soon. Ask MIT if thats available yet, but I would say it will be a good week out, as they catch up to who is missing an interview, remember this is many thousands of candidates, and many are in process, and some Regional Coordinators are faster than others at sending back uninterviewed candidates for the Skype interview.
He finished part 2 quite early–the hope was to have the interview as soon as possible as it is so daunting. Perhaps he will get contacted soon, he really hopes so! Thank you for the encouragement!
He just got contacted by an interviewer! Those of you still waiting, good luck! Thanks a lot!
Do all MIT candidates get an interview? My daughter got contacted last night by email as well. She was deferred from her EA application. I’m wondering if being contacted this late might not be a great sign.
Good news, @momofcskid and @alliblues ! There is no reason for the timing of the interview to be a sign - either positive or negative. All the best to your children and hope they do very well in the interview!
Thanks so much!!
Yes, thank you!
My daughter had her interview two Saturdays ago and it sounds like it went really well. Not sure how much influence they have on admissions though.
Not sure if this thread is still active. Is it OK to ask the EC to conduct a Skype interview instead of an in-person one since the location is more than an hour away from us?
You can ask. When the time comes, communicate with the EC and you can figure something out.
I live in a mostly rural area and have driven over an hour (each way) to conduct an interview. So, it is up to the EC what they want to do.
Certainly suggest meeting halfway. Personally I can suggest a place like Panera—Starbucks tend to be loud and a bit too cramped for a pleasant conversation. There are EC’s that do only Skype interviews because of where they are located, but I always encourage an in-person meeting if possible. I just think they are more fun. Hope that helps.
Son from NJ submitted part 2 in October about a week before ea deadline;hasn’t heard anything in regard to interview; reached out via email to indicate interest in an interview but no response there either. Is there anything else a student can do to facilitate getting an interview?
My son is also in NJ and submitted for early action Oct 31st. Has not received an interview request yet. Did 1600/1600 SAT, 4.0gpa, 800s subject tests, and 5’s on all APs. Sounds like they are behind on the interview schedule as compared to prior years …
Honestly, I believe it depends on the availability of interviewers/ the interviewers themself. I got contacted by an interviewer after only submitting part one, but I also live in nyc where there are a high volume of applicants so I assume the interviewer did this early to try and space out all the interviews they had to do. If you don’t get one, don’t worry too much about it. That’s on MIT’s part, not yours
MIT changed their interview system last year. I believe they lost a number of the alumni who do the interviewing because of that change. So, it is a bit of a challenge to grant all applicants an interview.
So how would you know if your interview has been waived?
