I emailed the coach 10 days ago and he or she hasnt responded. I emailed them a detailed letter about me including academic and athletic history. I am an all- state goalie with adequete skill to play there. In addition, my academics are adequete as well. I am unsure what to do now. I am wondering if I should send a follow up email or just keep waiting? Or do you think they are just not interested?
The coach may not be there right now. I’d keep emailing or calling until he/she tells you to get lost. You have nothing to lose, right? Are you going to any of the Showcases this summer? If so, make sure to include the information on which team you play for and when your games are. Even if the coach isn’t at the Showcase, all games are available online.
D3 isn’t as active in recruiting in the summer. You may find much more interest in the fall.
Every coach is different, but here are some generalities you can take or leave.
- They are generally too busy to read detailed letters. Gotta hit them with highlights.
- Other prospects are sending video. Maybe you should do this too. Thirty seconds or so viewing a video, and if it is positive, maybe the letter gets a look.
- Coaches these days, particularly at MIT, do not have to be in their offices to receive emails. They have the capability to receive and send communications from most anywhere. And I know for a fact, they do.
With MIT in particular, given the extremely long odds for admission and the lack of a likely letter process, it seems that their coaches (outside a few higher emphasis sports) don’t have anything concrete to offer. Maybe the coach is on vacation and will respond soon.
