MIT MITES

What is the definition of minority for this program? Should it be ethnic minority or being a girl in engineering is a minority?

Here’s the link for the selection process - <a href=“MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science”>MITES – MIT Introduction to Technology, Engineering and Science;

Note that at the end, it says that you are eligible to apply as long as you are a junior and a US citizen.

Thank you. I guess I was confused by one of the essays they required: How has your racial ethic identity affected your academic development?

The program is aimed at Hispanic/Latino/African American/Native American students as well as students who may be disadvantaged in some way. However, all students can apply. So, the essay wants to find out how you view the effect of your racial identity on your academic development. It’s more to see if you understand the connections between who you are and how that has contributed to your achievement or lack thereof.
