MIT v. Harvard for pre-med

Both schools have a great bio program...what do you guys suggest for pre-med bio? Please tell me what school and why...

Thanks!

Harvard. Hands-down. Don't even have to think twice about it.

Why? Because it's easier. Note, I didn't say it was easy, just easier. Simply put, it's easier to get the high grades that med-school adcoms demand if you go to Harvard rather than MIT. The fact is, arguably the most difficult part about becoming a doctor is getting admitted to a med-school, any med-school, in the first place. A significant percentage of pre-med students even from the elite undergrad programs get rejected from every single med-school they apply to, and that doesn't include those people who would like to be doctors but don't apply to med-school because they know that their grades are too low to get them in anywhere. The fact is, like it or not, med-school adcoms don't really seem to care very much that certain schools and certain majors are more difficult and give out lower grades than others - they want to see high grades, period. Since that's the way that med-school adcoms are, the logical response is to go to wherever you are likelier to get higher grades.

Take the following statistics for what they're worth. In 2004, over 1/4 of all MIT premeds who applied to med-school got rejected by every single med-school they applied to. Yep, straight rejections across the board. At Harvard, it's about 10%. Nor is this an anomaly - every single year, these numbers are about the same. Now one could argue that maybe this is because a disproportionately high number of unworthy MIT premeds apply each year, or because the MIT premeds just aren't of equivalent quality to the Harvard premeds, or the Harvard premed program provides better teaching, or whatever. Yet none of those things are substantiated, and are just a matter of conjecture. Use Occam's Razor and taking the established fact that Harvard gives out more inflated grades than MIT does and I think a clear case can be made that Harvard premeds are more successful than MIT premeds because the Harvard grading is easier.
