MIT vs Columbia

I would like to know which college is better for Computer Science “Columbia or MIT” but please don’t say MIT just because that’s the popular opinion.
Take into consideration the following:
Social Life
Boston vs NYC
Academics
Campus
Prestige
Jobs after graduation
research opportunities during academic year

Just looking at academics - MIT because it’s the right answer.

Prestige is a stupid parameter. Social Life, MA vs.NY, Campus are all personal choices.

At the end of the day, the best one is the one that admits you. Apply to both and hope you have this decision to make, although the likelihood is one or the other (or both) will make the decision for you.

If you’re smart enough to be accepted by MIT, you’re smart enough to figure this one out on your own.

MIT, but Columbia is an awesome place for anyone who really likes NYC.

On the off chance that you want to take your coding skills to an algorithmic or otherwise quant trading shop, though, and the funds haven’t called you based on contest results, Columbia might give you a little better access.

MIT. Sometimes an opinion is popular because it’s correct.

But most of your criteria are opinions. If you personally like Columbia for all the other reasons, it’s certainly a fine school.

OK, here’s some advice from someone who works in computers. CS is a highly employable degree and it’s relatively easy to find a strong entry level job regardless of what college you go to. MIT and Columbia are both strong, but that doesn’t mean the schools are going to be the right fit for you. Shop around and find a good affordable school that has the right vibe for you.

Also, if you can get into these schools, you can get a full scholarship too, which is a far better deal than a prestigious school. Graduating debt free is worth its weight in gold, especially if you want to start a family later.
