MIT vs small LACs

It is possible for someone to got to both the MIT grad and undergrad schools right?

I'm just asking because I heard from unnamed source that they had a friend (planning to study engineering) who got into MIT and Williams, and decided to go to Williams thinking it was a good strategic move, since he could go to MIT for grad school.

is this a good idea?

sounds extremely sketchy to me...

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible- but they might have simply preferred the experience of Williams for undergrad, or wanted to experience both environments. In any case though, for an engineering major, choosing Williams is downright weird....

Its defiantly possible, but i doubt its better to have 7 years of education in the same area. You need to expand and meet different profs, ideas, and such to get a good grasp of your field in grad school.

Some of the graduate programs at MIT do not accept MIT undergrads, believing that, after 4 years there, the students should go elsewhere for grad school. Other grad programs at MIT favor their undergrads in admissions. You have to look at the specific program that interests you. If you go to either place for undergrad, there are lots of grad schools around, so no need to go to MIT for grad school.

IIRC... CompSci @ MIT doesn't accept undergrads into grad program...?

So I got rejected from MIT (going to UMich) , but as far as I'm concerned, that's the silver lining... I can always go back to MIT for PHD :)
