It is possible for someone to got to both the MIT grad and undergrad schools right?

I'm just asking because I heard from unnamed source that they had a friend (planning to study engineering) who got into MIT and Williams, and decided to go to Williams thinking it was a good strategic move, since he could go to MIT for grad school.

is this a good idea?

sounds EXTREMELY sketchy to me...

MIT is actually the most common graduate school destination of MIT undergrads. :) Particularly in engineering grad school admissions, going to MIT for undergrad gives you a pretty significant advantage over an applicant from another school.

(Data on the graduate school destinations of 2005 grads is on page five of this pdf.)

I would not advocate going to another school in hopes of an easier time getting into MIT grad school. It's very tough to get into MIT grad school and you might as well get the undergrad degree if you get the opportunity to.
