I'm a junior this year, and plan on taking the SAT and ACT later this year, so I don't have those scores yet. What are my chances on being accepted to summer MITES program at MIT and/or MIT my senior year, if I maintain everything?

Thus far you have an impeccable record, especially considering you also are a URM (as a Native American, which most schools don’t have a large population of).

For admission to MITES: Apply! They’re looking for minority students pumped up about engineering. I don’t think your PSAT is “bad”, especially since you have a perfect GPA. However, if that’s worrying you, see if you can take the ACT/SAT before the apps are due. The latest postmarked date is in February 2, and the program site says, “All application materials must be postmarked by February 2, 2009. You should schedule to take your test so as to receive your standardized test scores by the deadline. We do not accept test scores for tests scheduled after the deadline. We will accept results from tests taken by January 15th. Copies of these results should be sent as soon as you receive them. No results will be accepted after February 20th.” Don’t sweat it, I think you have a good case for admission.

Now, for admission to MIT: I think your focus as of right now should be your ACT/SAT, you should also take the required SAT IIs for MIT. Which are two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (Level 1 or Level 2), and one in science (Physics, Chemistry, or Biology E/M).

You should probably take more than two, as most kids do so, and you can take up to three in one sitting. One of the things you should consider especially since you’ve taken APs is say for example if you’ve taken AP World History or AP Bio, take the SAT II Bio or SAT II World History. I used this as a means to 1) boost my score, since I felt confident in the subject area and 2) as a means to save studying time.

You should also consider getting involved with some type of tribe related organization. I’m not exactly sure how NA tribes function, but I do of a few people who have great honors as volunteers within organizations relating to either their tribes or NA issues.

I wish you the best in your last years of high school! You’re on the right path!

I thought the deadline was Feb. 15th
