neorun39: Have you applied to MMS program yet? Have you been to one of the open houses?

Yes and no. I’m in Florida and can’t get to an Open House, but I’ve been on campus before.

I am applying too. I hope that both of us get in.

Are you doing an interview? I booked an interview before the interview policy was changed. I believe I am still doing an interview.

Any updates on this program?

What kind of information are you looking for?

My sincere apologies for not updating this since last summer. I can’t believe it’s been that long. But honestly, that is a testament to this program and how much has been going on.

We’re about a month from graduation now and the year has been a whirlwind. I truly don’t know how I can sum it up. I guess to give you an overview, I can tell you a few bits about what I’ve personally done and then if you have specific questions, I would definitely encourage us to have an offline chat (offline as in off of College Confidential).

In October I helped design and was elected to the executive board (government) for the MMS program. In the Fall, I had the opportunity to meet and lunch with the Fuqua Board of Visitors, which consists of C-level executives from many major corporations and other various influential people globally. I meet with our deans fairly regularly…and this is really has nothing to do with the fact that I’m on the executive board. The great thing about Fuqua and this program is not only the caliber of the administrators, but how much they actually care about you as an individual (on top of the success of the program) and how they will make time for you. This is unique and special.

My classmates and I have gotten an amazing variety of job offers spanning i-banking, consulting, finance, tech, healthcare and other verticals. There has also been a GREAT deal of entrepreneurial activity. I’m not going to lie, the career and job searching has been a real test of will and self-marketing. It’s been a lot of hard work (like everything else). However, to be frank, the CMC has literally bent over backwards to give each individual person and the program an inordinate amount resources and career strategies/guidance. Blair Sheppard (Fuqua’s dean) personally spoke with CEOs at some major (and we’re talking major) firms to get them to make their HR folks as excited and knowledgeable about the program as they were. The Fuqua career center and marketing also did a massive resume push to those companies and many hits came from that effort. These are just 2 of the many results that have come about due to Fuqua admin’s openness and commitment to providing a world-class business education with world-class opportunities. There have been amazing opportunities on the international front as well.

One of the last things I’ll comment on in general here is that the academics have been overall AMAZING. People in this program, and at Duke in general, are very smart. You WILL BE intellectually and emotionally challenged (the emotional part comes from the extreme pairing of academics with teamwork see below). We’ve literally been learning from some of the most famous business thought-leaders in their fields, and some of the most promising up-and-coming faculty. You will love accounting by the time you leave this program. It’s that good.

Teams and People. You’ll also really enjoy getting to your classmates (and learning how to work with them!). The program chooses students well. And with next year’s class being slightly bigger and with a bigger applicant pool, I can only imagine that will be even more true. Team Fuqua is a big deal here and just about everything you do is team-based. Learn to love it.

So in short: I’ve got a GREAT job lined up as a senior associate in a leadership development program, and I think the program, despite pain points of being a new program in the midst of a tough economy, is already solid…and this was just the first year. It’s really kind of unbelievable. The program is going places. I think the vast majority of my classmates would agree. I know some (myself included) would even question the “need” for an MBA that many of us originally thought we would plan to get in future years. Other exciting things related to the program: they’ve got MMS counterparts lined up at the new Duke/Fuqua campus in the Kunshan province of China even different flavors of MMS will be the featured business programs there.

In my position on the executive board I started up this blog for the program. It’s got a ton of information from the student perspective and a glance into our daily lives outside the classroom: [The Duke MMS Association | The Fuqua School of Business](http://www.dukefuquammsa.blogspot.com).

Let me know if you’d have specific questions!

I will almost certainly matriculate this coming fall and plan on keeping a blog. Thus far I just have some information I’ve gathered from current students, websites, etc. [Fuqua MMS - A Personal Perspective](http://www.lukeatduke.com/)

Raising it from the dead!

I wanted to bump and possibly get some updates from the students of the program.

Not a MMS student, but has access to the detailed Fuqua employment report.

In the preliminary report, 19 MMS students report employment upon graduation (not sure how big the class size is). The jobs are typical business school jobs, albeit, not at the MBA level, ranging from non-profit to marketing to consulting to financial services.

The MMS program at Fuqua is new, so there’s a lot of room for growth. I heard last year, it was mostly Duke UG students, but this year it has diversified out a bit.

im hoping it will give me access to analyst positions within Consulting firm, since my school is beyond a non target, do you have any info for consulting #'s?

FYI I ended up not applying. Instead I’m working as a new associate with an investment bank. Interestingly, a couple of other applicants for my job were Duke Fuqua MMS graduates. I’m not sure what happened to them.

9/87 went into consulting.
The mean salary (function) is $59,300, median is $62,500, range is $42,000 - $66,000

that seems rough

Is the number small because of lack of Firms recruiting there or lack of interest by the students?

Cmoss,

The MMS class at Fuqua now has access to firms recruiting both MBA as well as MMS students. MMS Students have the best of both worlds when it comes to potential recruiters. Trust me, there is absolutely no lack of firms recruiting - it is actually overwhelming trying to keep up with the info sessions and networking events that are so crucial in securing a consulting job offer. I would tell you the exact number but I am too tired to look them up and count them. But if you ask me about which firms you are interested in, I’ll let you know.

does the MMS program have a LinkedIn group?

Yes it does.

Fuqua’s MMS program is getting better every year. This year, a girl got an offer for McKinsey.

I am considering applying to the Duke MMS program. However, I am an international student [but I did my undergrad in the States] so I am wondering if anyone has any insights/anecdotal/second-hand knowledge of how international students are faring in the job placement aspect.

Obviously, getting a job requires a lot of effort in both networking and perseverance, but I was just wondering all things considered, how the opps were for international students in your batch. I have seen the exit opps stats posted by Fuqua but I have also heard conflicting opinions on various places; I would be very grateful if someone could provide some on the ground knowledge as to what’s actually the deal.

Thanks a massive ton in advance - looking fwd to the responses.

Hey, I was also wondering what are the chances of international students getting a job in the states after the mms program. If anyone could shed some light, that would be great!
