don't forget that very few people pay the sticker price!!

and to the OP.. make sure that u spend shabbat on campus before u accept... (before u apply if u can fit it in in october or between on the holidays in september....) but before u accept u must must must spend shabbat if u can afford it !

Have you considered at double degree program with Jewish Theological Seminary and Columbia? You get your degree from Columbia, but JTS is considerably easier to get into. The kids there go from extremely observant to less so with a strong intellectual interest in Judaism.

JTS doesn't really attract the modern orthodox crowd, as opposed to the more traditional conservative....

i think the OP was lookign for a strong modern orthodox community, as opposed to a strong jewish community...

although if im wrong, mythmom.. thast a great suggestion

Thanks for your suggestions. I am looking for a strong Modern Orthodox community rather than just a general strong Jewish community. Besides, I'm nowhere near strong enough to get into Columbia(2070 SAT). Keep posting!

You certainly could get into Columbia with a 2070

loslobos71, while I techniaclly could with that score, and the fact that I've done lots of volunteer work(and am devoted to a cause), I still think I am an EXTREMELY weak candidate. My school offers no APs, and is in the process of closing down. I've done one independently, and plan on doing 2 this year, but that not nearly enough compared to some other applicants. I also as of right now have taken 0 SAT IIs, so I guess that's why I deem myself as an unfit applicant for Columbia. I'm just trying to look at it as realistically as possible. Thanks for your confidence in me though :)

By the way, I just asked my mother about JTS and she told me it is STRONGLY conservative. There is not much, if any, Modern Orthodox community there, so I can probably cross that off(now if only I can get into Columbia...).

just to clarify for op as well as anyone else reading this -- the jts joint program (list college) is not with columbia college -- it is with columbia's school of general studies -- you apply thru list college (there is also a jt program with barnard for which you apply thru both schools, but since i think op is male, that wouldn't apply to him). so i would not assume the admission standards are the same as applying to columbia college. list college is selective, but it is not columbia college.

I know someone who's modern orthodox who goes to List. BTW, Boxing, where are you from?

West Hempstead, NY, do you live on the island?

Nope, but my couz (Who's going to Queens) lives in Nassau County also.
