I was interviewed (and subsequently invited) for a Moderna booster + flu or Shingrix (single) shot trial (new type of mRNA flu vaccine and full dose Moderna). Spouse also invited to participate in the trial. My sense was that the interviewer was just an office worker asking a list of questions and may not know much about the actual trial (and so I need to confirm the dose and see if I can request flu rather than shingles bc I’m not interested in combining those). I am hoping some of you may have some advice.
We are 7 months out from second dose. Both work in a highly vaccinated environment but live in an area with <40% vaccination rate. All family members vaccinated. No one with health issues. Mid 50s age. I had flu-like side effects after second Moderna shot. Spouse had none.
We are pro science and like the idea of participating in a trial. But I’m hesitating. One neighbor who participated in one of the original covid trials was not allowed to get any other vaccines for a year. Is this common? Bc I would likely not participate then as I will need shingrix eventually. I don’t mind having some side effects but am wondering if the full dose is overkill. From what I can tell on the internet, the flu portion of the shot would be a new type of flu vaccine (mRNA) that is predicted to be more effective than the traditional vaccine. I don’t really think I can do wrong here, per se, but not quite sure if I should proceed or wait for boosters for general population. I would be first in line for those. And I think we would feel safer doing things like socially indoors and being in the community.
I welcome your thoughts and advice.
