Can anybody tell me about the location of Mount Holyoke College? I was told that Amherst is a "rural" campus, but my visit proved otherwise, at least for me. Is Mount Holyoke really out in the middle of nowhere? What I considered truly rural, is Middlebury.

Mount Holyoke is in a South Hadley, town with a college, a bookstore, a sandwich place and a few bed and breakfasts. I loved it and am applying. Their town isn't as big as Amherst, however, there is a bus that takes students to the five colleges (Hampshire, Amherst, Smith and University of Massachusetts at Amherst) and the surrounding areas. It probably takes 20 minutes to get to Amherst and a little longer to get to North Hampton.

My impression of MHC is that the campus is beautiful, quiet, and somewhat isolated. South Hadley probably does not have a great deal to offer, as college towns go. On the other hand, it should not be difficult for MHC students to get to much livelier scenes in Amherst or Northampton. So MHC is certainly not isolated or rural to the same degree as, say, Middlebury or Williams.
