I know there is a lot of factors that play a role in being admitted into college, but does the fact that my dad did not go to college and my mom went but dropped out and didn't graduate help my chances?

Thanks!

In some colleges, I believe that this actually works as an advantage/hook as they may consider you as a first-generation college student.

Yeah this is definitely a slight advantage. You’d be considered a first-generation college student. :)

yes, its a bit more than a slight advantage in my opinion. To me, top colleges that are viewed as “elitist schools” like to boast how many first generation college-goers, diversity, etc. they have. (i.e. Harvard, columbia) I would classify it as a hook, less than AA hook though. Just my opinion though.

Well by slight advantage, I meant that it’s not going to get you accepted if they probably wouldn’t have accepted you otherwise. But it will get you accepted over another person with similar credentials that doesn’t have a hook like this one.
