Hello, the Princeton Review just came out with its 376 Best Colleges, and my mom is heavily influenced by the media. UPenn is not listed anywhere on those lists, so now my mom is convinced that UPenn is a terrible overrated school and a waste of time and money. She keeps wanting me to applying EA at Harvard instead. How do I convince her UPenn is an excellent school?

Well if that’s how she decides on which colleges you can apply for, she will change her mind again and again as new lists will be released. Too bad Univ of Penn didn’t make the top party school list…(just kidding).

If she’s so influenced by “the media”, ensure she’s looking at other media reports. And there is nothing wrong with going to Harvard.

You’re the one who has to attend the school…find out the facts. Fight for what you want. I mean, you think UPenn is an excellent school…why? Use those facts and reasons to convince her.

I definitely agree with everything with capenn15 said. It’s your life, and you have to make your own decisions. But if you are looking for something tangible to show your mom:

http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/undergrad/reports/Class2010CareerPlans.pdf

Most common employment: Goldman Sachs, Teach for America, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Citigroup, BCG, Google, Accenture, Barclays, Morgan Stanley

Most common grad schools: Penn, Columbia, Harvard, NYU, Duke, Michigan, Cambridge, Cornell, Georgetown, MIT

Penn students get the best jobs and go to the best med, law, grad, and business schools.

Tell your mom that U.S. News and World Report is more legitimate than Princeton Review…Then show her this:

[National University Rankings | Top National Universities | US News Best Colleges](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities)

Then tell her that because Harvard is offering EA after not offering it for a while they are going to be flooded with apps and it will be extremely competitive.
