How generous with aid would SLC be for a less than 55,000 a year low income African American family? And I know this place doesn’t have majors but is there an undergraduate social work field of study here?
As an SLC alum, I believe that If you are a really strong candidate, you would very likely get a good package. Lots of social workers have come out of the school. You would probably have a greater breadth of classes in that area at a bigger school, but the conference work gives you a lot of flexibility. You could be doing original research, one-on-one, with a full professor, freshman year. It would be hard to find that anywhere else.
You should check out Vassar and Grinnell. Vassar has the best financial aid system hands down. Grinnell is largely needs blind (or has been but they’ve been talking about changing that lately). Also check out the entire list of schools that partner with Questbridge. They are seeking high achieving low income students and offering money to encourage them to attend.
