Money for pre-frosh weekend?

I would really like to attend the pre-frosh weekend April 25-27. Does Harvard offer any financial aid to help me be able to go? If so, where should I ask? Thanks!

My regional admissions officer said they did. I’m in the same boat as you; I’m gonna call tomorrow.

what is this travel collaborative thing?

There should be a letter with your financial aid saying that Harvard will pay for your flight to visit for Pre-Frosh. If you don’t have the letter in your FA packet it may be hard to get some money.

^ ahh, I can’t wait until it comes!!

ok great, thanks guys!

they just sent me an email about this…

bump…
did anybody get information about this in their packet? I got mine today, and it didn’t say anything about it :(

I got an email about this, too.

so they did offer to buy your ticket? They gave me a fairly substantial amount of financial aid, so I guess I thought I would qualify for any money for transportation… hmmm

I didn’t get my financial aid package or the big envelope yet, but they emailed me saying that they would pay for my plane ticket if I was coming by plane, train ticket if by train, car fees, and other transportation fees anytime I visited Harvard if I notified them one week before. I think that this is only a one-time thing, though, so I’ll probably use this for the pre-frosh weekend.

I got an email from the Financial Aid office inviting me to prefrosh weekend, but it said nothing about paying for my travel. Does this mean they won’t subsidize my plane fare? I can’t go without financial assistance. Is there any way I can appeal to the FAO to have it paid for? My EFC is about $8K, if that helps…has anyone with a higher EFC been offered travel assistance?

bump, I’d like to know the same thing as kayabertz ;-)

okay, it looks like I am also in the same position as you two ^

I’ll bump this one more time…unfortunately, the FinAid office is closed over the weekend, otherwise I’d call and ask. Does anyone on CC know anything?

I’d say that if you didn’t receive an email or a letter in your packet, then you will not be subsidized for the trip to Harvard. =(

i can’t give too much insight but i heard from my year that it was pretty difficult to get subsidized travel to harvard for prefrosh weekend. it might have changed this year, and i don’t know any specifics unfortunately.

Harvard’s not paying for me, but Yale is! Guess that’s another check on the “Why I’m going to Yale” list!

aah, kayabertz, we’re in the same boat, I guess :/

Looks like we’ll both be calling the financial aid office on monday ;-)

I asked this question on the Harvard admitted students’ messageboard, and here’s the reply I got:
"First off, we’d love to welcome all of our admits to Cambridge in April and will do all we can to make sure as much information about Harvard as possible!

We are’t able to make many public statements about the specifics of our financial aid formulas or aid packages, since all financial aid cases are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. However, I would encourage you or your parents (and those you know who are in a similar situation) to call our financial aid office at 617-496-1581 to speak with a financial aid officer directly. We are available by phone from 8AM-8PM Monday-Thursday and from 9AM-5PM on Fridays. We look forward to hearing from you!"
