This is my first semester in a college. Currently, I'm receiving..

TAP - $2,500
HESC Scholarship - $500
Federal Pell Grant - $2,775

These are only for my Fall semester. My tuition is $2653.25. How does the college go about calculating my money? From which financial aids does the college start deducting from? TAP? Pell Grant?

Once they've finished deducting, how much money will I get back? From TAP or Pell Grant? Also, when do I receive the check/s?

It will all depend on the school and their policies. One school we were familiar with actually linked each expense to a source of payment - Pell, loan etc. The other just lumped all the money coming into the bursars account together and paid whatever was due without allocating expense a to money source x.

How much money you get back will depend on your total direct expenses at the school. (tuition, fees, room & board, books etc).

When and how you get it will depend on the school’s policies. My daughter’s school sent theirs out about the 2nd week of school either by check or direct credit to the student bank if you gave them the info. My son’s took 6-7 weeks and had a rather annoying 3rd party debit card system that you had to maneuver round to force it to pay it into his own bank account rather than the weird debit card.

Ask your school if you want specific details. They all vary.

The TAP award will be applied to your tuition. The balance of your tuition and fees will either come from the PELL or the scholarship. CUNY can sometimes be a little slow in getting the $$ back to you. You may end up getting a couple of hundred dollars by the end of the month and you should get the balance sometimes in September. If you have a bank account, you can have the monies directly deposited into your account.

Hey i was wondering if any one knows if they refund the left over financial aid all at once or little by litte. My total unused financial aid was well over 2000 and i just received a check but for only 500. Will i recieve the rest of the unused financial aid or is that it?
