How do current Columbia students make money? Where are some good places to work? Are internships common and/or paid?

Stripping.

(I'm dead serious. a girl I knew was an exotic dancer. She was SEAS, too, as a matter of fact.)

The most common way people make money, albeit not very much money, is a crappy work study job. Other students make money doing things like tutoring, bartending, waitstaffing, babysitting, computergeeking, etc. As a freshman, you're not likely to make money from an internship unless you have marketable skills.

"money....MONEYY. Some people got to have it. Some people really need it. Listen to me y'all, do things, do things, do bad things with it "

Well, if you're desperate enough to throw your dignity and sense of self-respect away, then there's not much shame left, is there? Money's money.

I don't know what they want from me, seems like the more money we come by, the more problems we see.

New York's an expensive place to live. Making money is a legitimate concern.

You're not living in "new york." Rather, you're living in a little commune known as Columbia. Your housing is heavily subsidized and the on-campus eateries are relatively inexpensive. Being a college student at Columbia isn't expensive because NYC is expensive; it's expensive because the tuition costs are outrageous.
