Money .. Problem :(

Honestly, they’re not trying to beat you up here. They’re being realistic. Colleges judge you based on your stats, and your stats are incredibly lackluster. I suppose there isn’t anything wrong about being average, but average does not get you acceptance letters or scholarship offers. I’m having the same problem.

And there is alot more to UCSC than sitting in trees and smoking. If you are applying to UC’s… you could be wasting your money. Your GPA does not meet their minimum.

You also seem to be wanting to apply to about 13 colleges… do you realize that the MINIMUM you would pay for your total applications would be about $650?

UCSC is a beautiful campus with fun dorm housing and downtown is hardly a few miles away. While some of the liberal studies stuff at UCSC is taught with a very liberal bent, all the sciences, computer, and animation stuff are top notch but not that easy to get into. I don’t think UCSC has Journalism but SFSU has good Comm and Broadcasting degrees. These days I think Broadcast Journalism with some Digital Art or Media blah blah is the way to go because of the internet and the entertainment industry.
Evergreen is really cool but you have to be self motivated. The thing is not much goes on in Olympia compared to other west coast cities worth taking Journalism there.

If she wants to go to Hawaii I’d recommend 2-3 years at a CCC. I know as a certified California Resident I get in-State tuition to all Hawaii Universities. Some do it as an alternative and end up with the lowest amount of loan debt to pay back going that route. There also is some exchange between quite a few California schools with Colorado ones too where students only pay in state costs.

Cabrillo College offers an AA and AS in journalism and their English and art/photography departments are great. Cabrillo is up on the hill in Aptos and there is some reasonable housing there and in Capitola which is next to SC.

^ OP is in Missouri.

To the OP: Check out your school’s Naviance page, it will give you a good clue of where you can and cannot get accepted.
