How many monologues should we have as backups? I auditioned for CMU in the past and they had me do about 6 different monologues last time. Trying to plan how many to do this time around.

They tell you to have three prepared. My D (a 2013 CMU MT grad) did three. She had one classmate (acting) that did seven or eight but did not know of anyone else that did more than three. I’m sure they can see what they need in most people with two or three.

Someone on here said that her daughter did five this audition season.

My daughter had to do FOUR. Thankfully, she had four prepared, but no more. This was not this year.

Are you all talking about completely different monos, or different cuts of a couple of monos depending on the length required by the school?

I can’t speak for the others, but I have a feeling that they are talking about what I am talking about.

My daughter had to perform four DIFFERENT monologues. She had prepared TWO monologues for CMU’s requirements. But Barbara asked her to do two MORE monologues and she luckily had two more that she knew that she had prepared for OTHER schools’ requirements and did those for a total of 4 completely separate monologues.

Just a heads up - My son had to perform his monologues as a chicken and as a stand-up Brooklyn comic. This was several years ago.

I don’t recall the specifics with my D (also several years ago), but she had to do some things like that too.

My son loves those “adjustments” – at Emerson last weekend, they made him perform his monologues with his forehead against the wall!

To the above commentors, were the people who were asked to more monologues just applying for Acting or were MT students also asked to do more monologues??

MT students can also be asked to do more.

My D did 4 last year, 3 with her original person, then another (in addition to her original 3) when she was passed to Barbara. She was also asked to do one of the originals while lying flat on her back on the floor…
