I am new to your board. Can any body give me an honest assessment of Montclair University for vocal performance. I am a soprano and i was accepted at both Montclair( my state safety) and BOCO( my reach). Boston Conservatory is extremely pricey and I am debating whether to spend all that on an undergraduate degree. Is the price tag worth the connection and network? I never hear anything about the Music end of Montclair, just about the Musical Theater aspect. Any info would really help me focus.

I am sure other will weigh in and be of help. You might also try your question in the music major section lots of VP folks over there.

A student of mine is graduating from Montclair this year – she was actually a vocal music major, with an emphasis on MT. This degree is somewhat different from a vocal performance degree, but I know that Montclair’s music department is excellent and expanding. Last year I attended their performance of an original opera, written by a faculty member, which was absolutely wonderful. Because of Montclair’s proximity to the city, I believe professional connections and networking are quite good as well.
