Montreal

anyone ever been? i'm thinking of heading to quebec with some friends for spring break next week--we found a hostel that's like $17/night, and i'd get to practice my french, drink legally and meet cute french boys i'll never see again :)

i was just wondering if anyone knows anything fabulous to do there/anything i can't leave without seeing. i love museums and historical landmarks and nerdy things like that, but i'm also curious as to around how much money i'd be spending on a night out (yeah, i'm planning to drink heavily--i mostly prefer beer). bar covers? how much will drinks cost? i know the american dollar is stronger than the canadian dollar, so that's a plus.

any insight is appreciated :)

Oh nice.

Yeah I go to college in montreal. Since you like beer you’re in for a suprise. Dieu du ciel is the pub in montreal I’de say. They have at least 80 beers in circulation there, 15 usually are there at any given time, plus they also have cider, a couple imported wines that change all the time, port, absinthe (on occasion), and a few other liqueurs. They have good food, too. But the biggest thing about DDC is the beers, hands down. You’ll find some of the best beers in the world (beer advocate . com will agree). As far as I know they won’t sell a single beer you’ve ever heard of because all their stuff is either imported (from small microbreweries around the world) or from quebec micro breweries (which btw quebec brews some of the best beers known to man). It’s cheap, too. A pint (depending on what kind of beer it is) is going to be 4.75-5.75, although some things you can’t buy in pints (pech

it’s ok, but overrated.

Most strip clubs per capita in the world, I believe.

Montreal is a great city.

I’ve never heard of Dieu du Ciel. Where is it?

Anyhow, get breakfast at L’avenue. Get lunch at Shwartz. Get dinner at Joe Beef.

That’s embarrassing…I’m a 2 minute walk from Dieu du Ciel. I just checked. Strange I never noticed.

wutang, ur 4th year right? or did you graduate last year?
Yeah you should definitely check out DDC.

Where’s L’avenue?

Montreal is an excellent city… I have only visited for a few days though so I can’t offer anything in the way of knowledge.

yeah, bigtwix, it would be great if you could PM me whatever info/suggestions/advice you have :)

we’d be staying at HI-montreal auberge de jeunesse on mackay street…i dunno if you have any clue where that is haha

oh yeah, wutang, so my friend just notified me that there is a dep right next door that sells all their beers bottled, if you ever wanna check em out.

Avoid Crescent Street. And try to stay out of the tourist-y parts of town. I hear good things about the Latin Quarter, and the gay district is supposed to be fun too (even if you’re not gay).

I just got back from spring break in Montreal… wish we’d gone to Dieu de Ciel, we were drinking $8 beers (well, not me because I dont drink beer, but still). Of course we were staying on Crescent St, so…

Sir Winston Churchill on Crescent St has $2.50 drinks on Tuesdays. We went there and it was pretty good. Also for daytime adventures I highly recommend going to the Biodome. That was probably the most fun I had in Montreal.
