<p>Moody's:</a> U.S. research universities can cope with federal funding cuts</p>

<p>The bond ratings of colleges and universities greatly vary. Some bond ratings reports for colleges are on-line and can provide some insight into a college’s financial conditions. Those bond rating agencies also really like colleges with low admissions rates and respectable yield rates, because it shows a strong demand for their seats.</p>

<p>The bond ratings are also an issue because some colleges have larger debts than they have endowments.</p>

<p>“There are more than 100 research universities and university systems in the US that borrow in capital markets and are rated by Moody’s. The group includes stand-alone private institutions well known for research such as Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute for Technology, and Stanford University. But the group also includes large multi-campus public university systems, including the University of California and the University of Texas System.”</p>

<p>The listed schools have excellent tech transfer offices.</p>
