My girlfriend recently was accepted to Moore CAD, and I was wondering if its a good school. I know vaguely of a good reputation, but I see it has a very non-selective acceptance rate, about 85%. I know this could just be because it is an all girls school and there aren't as many applicants, but is it good?

...........No one?

MrKirk, the fact that no one on CC knows much about Moore CAD should tell you something!

Yes, that tells you that nobody on CC knows much about it. I met someone who was a grad student and assistant teaching at Tyler who had gone there for her bfa. She thought it was great.

I am sure Moore is a fine school. However, if no one on CC has ever heard of it, it can't have a widespread reputation.

well, frankly, I have known of more forever, but never of cincinnati, until reading here.

modiam has a point. We shouldn't think any less of schools which aren't frequently mentioned on here.

I can name dozens of schools that are mentioned on here and especially the school (top LAC) that I transferred from as having major issues, but I don't think it accomplishes much.

I read a lot of ratings and rankings and have NEVER seen Moore mentioned anywhere. I have seen Cincinnati mentioned in various ratings such as by Design Intelligence Magazine.

ok, so Moore is not ranked, and you have not heard of it, and nobody on cc has discussed it ............ all that should tell us readers "something" about this school. After all, 90 people have read this discussion, and that is a huge population. Definitely the final word on art schools.

Moore College of Art and Design has been around since 1834. Its got the most beautiful location in philadelphia, being located directly on the parkway, across from the art museum. I also hear little about University of the Arts on this forum as well, which surprises me because it is one of the most well known and prestigious art schools in philly. I was hoping to hear from someone who actually knew something about the school other than that they have never heard of it.

//I was hoping to hear from someone who actually knew something about the school other than that they have never heard of it.//

I have heard of it.

I agree there are only so many people on this forum and depending on where you are located in the country you may or may not have heard of certain schools. I happen to live 30 minutes away so know of it and know it is in a great location. Moore happens to be an all female art school which is very small, I believe about 500 students. Since most of the people in this forum probably aren't looking for this type of school, that is probably why it isn't mentioned much, not because it isn't a good school. I have found this forum to be great in information gathering but for some reason there are some here who feel they are experts.

Very well put, mom of alex. I so agree.

Mom of Alex and Modiam, you may both be right about Moore. However, the people who post on this forum are, for the most part, a very well-educated, knowledgable group of folks. For a school to be on NO ONE's radar list means it probably isn't well known by many people including employers. This could, of course, be a falacy. However, I would bet it is true.

I really do not want to get into this, but I also do not appreciate your willingness (tg) to give people advice based on no information, but based only on the fact that "well educated" informed people don't know about something. There are many colleges, of all types, not on the main "radar" that many students attend and go on to have very successful lives and careers. Not everyone ends up at a rated, ranked, or whatever, college. Don't you think that there might be a school out there that is good for somebody but not on any "list"?
And, as has been repeatedly mentioned over and over again on this forum, a well known school , though it might raise some eyebrows or stand out on a resume, is not the final word to future employers. It is you and your portfolio and how you present yourself and your drive that tell an employer who you are. So, the fact that employers have not heard of Moore should not deter a student from checking it out and attending, if it seems like a good fit and he/she wants to go.

Modiam, I never said Moore was a bad school in any way bacause I never investigated or toured Moore. I agree that the fact that employers haven't heard of Moore should not deter a student from checking it out, especially if it seems like a good fit.

How's that?

True, you did not say Moore was a bad school. You said ............
........ "the fact that no one on CC has heard of Moore CAD should tell you something".
I fail to see the difference.
That's all, I'm done

MrKirk, Actually Moore has a 62% admittance rate, not 85%. It is a highly regarded school and if your girlfriend does not mind attending a small school for women only, she could be very happy there.

Thank you mom of alex!

Taxguy, do you work in the art/design field?

A few members of my family are in the art/design field, and my father is an accomplished graphic designer who has been working in the field for 25 years. They actually suggested Moore as a good school for my girlfriend to attend, and say that it is "a good school" and is reputable among those who are in the field. The reason I ask this is because I haven't had a chance to really discuss this with them, and I was hoping for some more in depth information, or at least some reassurance.
