<p>The only moral problem I see here is the professor who was so lazy that he couldnt even be bothered to use a textbook that was supposedly required and cost a student a considerable amount of money! Why are some educators so inconsiderate? And wouldnt his/ her dept head like to know s/he doesn’t even bother teaching using standard student resources.</p>
<p>If the book is still listed as required by the professor, how could there possibly be a moral obligation on the part of your daughter? Is it moral for her to NOT sell her textbook and allow students to pay more for the same book at the book store? Is it moral for her to remain silent? Doesn’t she have a moral obligation to stand at the entrance to the bookstore and warn students not to buy this unneeded textbook?</p>

<p>Sell it to another student at the school book swap. Your D may be shocked to learn that another student may actually tear off the wrapping and use the text.</p>
<p>charlieschm is right that some students benefit from a textbook. If your daughter didn’t make an A in the class, perhaps she should investigate that.
marybee333, many colleges’ departments determine which textbooks to use and even write syllabi for professors. Many professors then ignore both of those. So the problem is with the colleges and not the professors. I have never heard of anyone having a problem waiting until the first day of class to find out from the professor what material are needed.</p>
<p>If she sells the book still in shrinkwrap even if she didn’t say a word there is no mystery about how much it was used. But then as others have said, another student with another prof might get a good deal land actually use the book.</p>
<p>I’d buy the book if it were listed as necessary even if a student in an earlier class said s/he never used it, needed it. I can’t imagine not taking a chem course without buying the text. Clearly the book wasn’t used, so I don’t see the issue. It’s a matter of whether the student will buy the text from your DD or from some other place.</p>
