This questions is primarily for University and College admissions directors. Please don’t turn this thread into anything more than the specific question that it is.
Do University (Specifically Ivy, Top Tier and State Schools) take issue with high schools that have students or parents sign a morality clause that discriminates against LGBT?
and will that impact or eradicate chances of a student geting into your school even if they do not agree with the morality clause?
again, I know this is a sensitive, hot button issue, but PLEASE keep this civil and discuss the impact on college enrollment.
I very much appreciate your comments.
The morality clause may or may not be in the school profile. If it’s not in the school profile, adcoms wouldn’t know about it. If it is in the school profile, I don’t see how it’d work against the particular student, in part because that clause assumes that if someone is LGTBQ and signs the clause they’ll magically stop from being who they are. All it’ll do is prevent LGBTQ students from dating some people they’re attracted to, which isn’t the adcoms’ business.
Are you in the process of choosing a high school? If so, this clause appears to concern you. Which tells me that even though everything else at that high school looks good, it isn’t the place for you to be sending your kid. Keep shopping for a better high school.
There were morality clauses at Catholic schools (maybe still are; I don’t know) … and that doesn’t appear to affect where Catholic school grads go to college.
I would not think that would affect admissions, one way or the other. Obv., if your kid goes to a highly religious school I would expect your family values to align, and likely affect college choices much more.
