If I take 6 aps junior year and take 4 in senior year (skipping gym and pushing it to senior year) will it negatively affect my chance of getting into a good college?
I wouldn’t advise taking 6 APs junior year. Junior year is the most stressful year and you don’t want to take so many that you can’t keep up with. How are you supposed to have time for all that homework, plus difficult tests, plus doing whatever it is that you do outside of school, AND having time to study for SAT/ACT?? Taking 6 APs isn’t impressive if you don’t get good grades in them. I’m going to assume you’re shooting for top ranked schools. I would advise taking 4 APs in a year at most. Which sounds better: 6 B’s, or 4 A+'s? Taking 6 APs will be a death sentence to your GPA unless you want to dedicate all your free time to studying for the entire school year. Burn out is real and it’ll hit you like a bus when you least expect it. Don’t take 6. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later.
As for senior year, see how junior year goes, and then decide how many APs you wanna take. Good luck !
Top colleges want to see 6-8 AP 's, TOTAL, from applicants who don’t attend lower performing schools. Typically that would mean AP English language, one AP math (not both), one AP history, either one AP science or foreign language or both, then subjects germane to your purported field(s ) of interest. BTW the above list is not definite and can totally vary depending on the person and their goals.
What matters is having excellent grades and scores along with something (activities, which could be school -based, community -based, etc.) where you stand out. Taking 4aps junior year would be plenty and would leave more time for you to focus on the activity you chose where you have to be a stand out - THAT will make the difference for you, whereas therr’ll be no meaningful impact of 6 vs. 5 vs. 4 in terms of admission results.
