I'm an IBer and there aren't any AP classes I can take. I am considering taking several AP tests (3-6) & SAT subject tests (4-5) because I won't be able to put any IB scores on my college apps. Is this a waste of time or would it give me a little extra boost? Any thoughts/opinions appreciated!

The SAT Subject test… 4-5… seems like an overkill since most colleges ask for 2 if not three. But depending on the calibre of the college you want to apply to, more APs should definitely help.

If you’re a senior, don’t bother self-studying AP exams unless you want college credit. However, as a junior/freshmen/sophomore, it looks nice
Good luck!

Thanks I’m a junior. Well the reason I would take so many SAT Subject tests is because they are easier than AP tests. I was thinking of taking the AP chem, bio, american history, world history, and maybe US gov or lit. It’s good prep for the IB exams. But then if I’m going to self-study for AP, why shouldn’t I go ahead and do the subject tests? so hahaha I go back and forth.

Usually people take the AP exam and then the subject tests in May or June.

I might take as many subject tests as you because I’ll be taking the corresponding APs as well!

My too, 082349. Is it okay/possible to report more SAT II scores than just two (or three)? Does anyone know? I think good scores on Italian, Latin, World History, French, German and Biology would help improve the focus of my application (I know that’s a lot, but I want to be a bioarchaeologist, and knowing a variety of languages + history + anatomy are essential).

Wow, that’s an interesting career. I’m quite interested in physics and international relations. Weird combination, I know.

Haha, I know how you feel I am super interested in international relations as well. Everyone thinks I should choose an international relations career, but I guess I don’t know if I would love my job as much. It would be really cool, but studying ancient remains also fascinates me. I guess we have a while to make a final decision, though (approaching quite fast, sadly).

WannaBYalie, are you really anticipating good scores in all of those subjects?

Actually, I am. There is no reason I cannot get a 5 in each of those if I stick to my goals, same goes for others who are self-studying a lot, like 082349.

Oh… you mean SAT II’s? Well, I’m not saying I’m gonna take all of those tests. I’m just saying that each of those would add positive attributes to my app. I wouldn’t add them if they weren’t good scores. I haven’t taken any SAT subject tests yet anyway, so when the time comes I think I will have forced myself to adequately prepare, therefor (hopefully) receiving at least a 750. But again, who knows? I doubt I’ll take all of them.

Well, best of luck!! haha
