More Dumb Grade School Questions From a Pre-Freshman

Edit: Grad school, not "grade school," obviously.

OK, so I am pretty sure that mechanical is the most likely best option for my undergrad. But I really want great grad school options, and I don't know much about the fields and how it works.

So my question I guess is what engineering grad school majors are open to an ME grad? How much of a stretch would it be if I wanted to do biomedical or something at that level? Is that just a few extra organic chem and biology classes, or is there a fundamental divide?

In general, jumping to grad school is less about the title on your degree and more about whether or not you have specific classes and/or research experience that prepares you to work in a particular lab. The exact classes required for a particular lab can vary even between people, as each will be looking at slightly different areas often with a slightly different perspective or purpose. So can you do Biomedical with a BSME? Yes, but the number of labs for which you will be acceptable will be smaller than if you had a BSBME - taking extra courses in the BSBME curriculum will expand that list, but I cannot say if it will expand it to incude the labs that you want.

OK, thanks. I think I just want to be on the “cutting edge” of something, developing innovative stuff from an early point, but don’t know enough about anything to really know what field even. This reality frustrates me.
