More expensive schools worth it?

I got accepted into the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. This is a very expensive school, and I cannot afford it without multiple loans. My other options are local schools: University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, and Rice.

Is Rose better than these other schools, and if so, is it worth it to be in debt for a while to go there?

What major? engineering? if yes, it's not worth it.

Yes, I will major in Engineering (don't know which particular field though.) Could you tell me why it is not worth it, and how you know this?

"Worth it" is a relative term. In my opinion, it is not worth the extra unless you have some outstanding reason for preferring the school. You have some powerhouse choices there. What do you like better about Rose Hulman?

Well, I just expected that Rose is better because of its 10 year in a row #1 undergrad ranking. I like it because it is small, the whole school is about engineering, no "fluff" classes. I just figured it would give me a better education than the other three. Am I wrong?

See the extensive discussion about committing to expensive private vs to less expensive public universities on the "how could I turn down Princeton" thread

Rose Hulman is best engineering schools whose highest degree is a
bachelor’s or master’s
UT of Austin is top ten for engineering schools whose highest degree is
a doctorate. I think they are comparable, 4.2 vs 4.4 peer assessment.
See link below for the ranking in each engineering specialty.

Rose-Hulman is worth it, other schools like BU would be no

Eh, all of your three other choices are high-quality school. Unless you're absolutely in love with Rose-Hulman, or the cost would come down to the same for all four... go with another one. Especially if you're considering grad school.

UT-Austin is a better value. Rice is just a better school.

What kind of engineering? I'd refer you to University of Utah (most engineering specialties), Brigham Young University (most engineering specialties), Colorado School of Mines (there is a really really good School of Mines in Reno, I do not recall the name and both specialize in both civil and geological sub-groups), University of Colorado/Boulder (most engineering specialties), University of Arizona (most engineering specialties), I mean the list goes on. These are great schools, why not those? And they may have financial aid opportunities that UT/Austin doesn't have.

*** are you talking about? Utah? BYU? for engineering? try Purdue, Georgia Tech, Illinois or Michigan for engineering instead

No need to use such colorful language....

Are you accepted as a transfer?

Practically speaking, I would go wherever is cheapest.

Personally speaking, Rice then UT then Rose-Hulman, just for the overall undergrad experience, since I think you'll get a great engineering education at any of these three places.

I have a friend who goes to Rose - Hulman. Absolutely hates it there.

If I were you, I would go to UT or Rice. Those schools are cheaper and more prestigious. I'm not saying name is everything, but everyone knows of Rice and UT, and if you can't afford Rose Hulman, it might not be worth it. Either way, you'll make money as an engineer, Rice isn't exactly a bad school to put on a resume :)
Also, even though Rose Hulman is #1, no one has heard of it and it sounds like someone's Great-Aunt. I'm just being honest here. Yes, I know it's an amazing school.

No. Go to Rice or UT.
