More important: GPA or AP scholar

This year i am taking three AP classes and I believe I can make a 3 or higher on the exams resulting in me being an AP scholar. With that said, I currently have a 3.0 GPA. I could take an easy class and get an A, or I could keep taking my AP class and get a B-. Which looks better to colleges , a higher GPA(3.1 Maybe) or being an AP scholar?

P.S. I am a Junior

Schools like at the rigor of your courses. An A in an easy class won’t do you much good.

AP scholar! If you get B’s for the classes and get high scores on the AP tests, you’ll still have a great chance at the school :)

A 4.0 w/ no APs or honors looks better than a 3.0 with three AP classes. However, that is not your situation. Personally, I think an A in a non-AP class is better than a B- in an AP class. (An exception would be if this AP class was notoriously one of the most rigorous AP classes. For example a B- in AP Physics C - E & M would trump an A in regular physics any day.) In your situation it won’t really boost your GPA if you take drop down to the non-AP class so just stay w/ your AP class.

I actually asked my son’s GC this question a few years ago. She said a B in an AP is better than an A in a less rigorous class. That’s one GC’s opinion.

Thanks guys. I talked to my teacher and she thinks i should stay. I am going to stay, thanks so much for your help

I hope you get A’s in your AP classes … that will help the most.
