GPA dilemma

What's better taking easy classes and getting high GPA or taking hard classes and getting low gpa
What would colleges say?
What do u say?

B in AP w/ high test score > A in Honors > B in AP w/ low test score

R school GPA is on 7 scale where honors and ap are a 7 if an a

Depends if the school weights or not. Obviously, if your school weights APs/Honors and you’re still managing to lower your GPA despite taking harder classes, then something is wrong. For instance, at my school, a 70 in an AP class is equal to a 90 in a College Prep (basic) class - so if you’re somehow lowering your GPA despite such a huge weight, maybe you should reduce the rigor of your classes.

On the other hand, if its the difference of one letter grade (A in Honors English, B in AP English) then I think you should still take the AP version.

It depends. I would argue it’s better to have a 4.0 UW with mostly AP’s and a few regulars than a 3.7ish UW with all AP’s. But some rigor is essential.

so are ap’s truly that important to where if i just take ap math and science but not english or history it would look bad.

Depends where are you applying. Schools are beginning to value rigor more and more. It reached the point while scheduling for next year that my counselor flat out told me I needed to take AP Calc for some of the schools I was applying to. As long as you can maintain a 3.75+ you should be taking as many APs as possible (or at least your core subjects)

i want to apply to northwestern i love math and science i am also gifted and talented its just english and social studies that really hurt me but i still get a’s

If you think you will get an A you should take AP English and an AP history…

Let’s generalize that:

Is it better to attempt to learn x and y and succeed, or to attempt to learn x, y, and z and only succeed at x and y?

Bumppppppppp!!!

“What’s better taking easy classes and getting high GPA or taking hard classes and getting low gpa”

If you’re applying to extremely selective colleges, your competition will have gotten high grades in hard classes. But if you can’t succeed in hard classes, take easier classes and apply to less selective schools.

Take AP classes in subjects that you’re good at. It’s important to challenge yourself without overloading yourself. I wouldn’t risk taking all APs only to be unsatisfied with the grades. Also take into account your ECs and how they’ll be affected by your course load.

If I take only ap math and science will it look bad

I think you need to take what you feel comfortable taking.
If you aren’t very good in History or English then stick with Math & Science
