I’m in state and Barrett is an easy, safe option. My other choice is Wash U in St. Louis. I’ll have to make a lot of sacrifices if I go there - far from family, money, less options for graduate school because of money - but I’m willing to do it to get the experience I want in college. My question is, do I have to go so far away to get what I want or can I get it at Barrett? I want personalized teaching from inspiring teachers, deep relationships with intelligent peers, and the ability to explore and find my passion, and do research in that passion.

I was in a very similar situation. Barrett or a school on the east coast. I would have gone to Barrett if it was a full ride, but the cost only turned out to have a $3000 difference. Barrett is a great choice, but if you want to go there because its “easier”, then I wouldn’t. I was also concerned with being far from my family, but you have to grow up at some point and live for yourself. I decided against Barrett only for the money not for any educational or “prestige” value.
