Between IU and Michigan State, which one has more stuff to do and is more fun to be at?

Given that you’re posting this on an IU board, you’re going to get biased answers. But given that, I would still pick IU. A lot of OOSers (whether you’re OOSor not, I don’t know…but I’m going to assume you are) think that Bloomington is just a podunk hick town in the middle of nowhere Indiana. Well…it is in the middle of nowhere Indiana, but it’s far from a podunk hick town (Indy is just 45 minutes away, however).

There’s really something to do for everyone and for every ‘mood’ you’re in.
-If you like to party, the Greek scene is big and the Kilroys family of bars don’t fall in the top 15 highest grossing bars in the nation for no reason. I’m a girl, so I can’t really judge, but a lot of places will rank our girls hottest in the Big 10. We have a lot of big name artists come for concerts for cheap (I went to Lil Wayne/Nicki Minaj one year, DMB and John Mayer the next), and you will occasionally see Mark Cuban at the bars (he’s an alum).
-If you like nature, IU is a tree hugging campus. Seriously. We had a huge storm come through in the summer of 2010 and for every tree that was knocked down we replaced it with 2. There’s also Lake Lemon, Griffey, several national forests, and the quarries made famous by Breaking Away. The weather here is also much better–you can actually wear shorts in April! We also have a lot of outdoors clubs, and you can take classes in things like whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and survival skills
-If you like sports…well, IUBB is obviously a natural draw. Best team best pants, right? But beyond basketball, football is pretty big…well, the tailgate is. We’re getting better though! Soccer (8 time national champions) and baseball are also big draws. Spring revolves around Little 500 and all the traditions that it brings. Alumni come back for years to cheer on their teams and to be on campus for the Greatest College Weekend. You can even watch the mens race on AXS TV.
-If you’re a foodie, there are a shockingly large number of really great restaurants in Bloomington. I live in DC now and still can’t find as good of Thai food as I had at Siam House in Btown. 4th street is full of great ethnic food. FARM is a great locally sourced/organic/green type of restaurant…and I could go on and on. Village Deli, Runcible Spoon, Scholars Inn, etc etc

Basically, there’s something to do for everyone. I was in a sorority, majored in a hard science, and fenced. Yes, fenced (you can take that as a class!). I have friends who were on the equestrian team, debate, business competitions, club sports, dance teams, religions organizations, and even a knitting club.

Plus really, Little 5. If you need any reason to go to IU, it’s Little 5.

Bloomington is a cool college town - E. Lansing not so much
